DuckyLuck is the crafty pseudonym of Lauren Strain. I make all manner of craftyness here in the little backyard studio built by my lovely husband. Out here I am surrounded by my little garden, my sweet chickens and two wonderful, crafty, inspirational little girls. I pull ideas for said craftyness from all over, but especially from these guys.
I have been knitting, sewing, crocheting, painting and building since I was a wee thing, and as I’ve gotten older these things have accumulated layers of meaning. I feel a connection to all the generations of crafters before me, women and men doing for themselves to care for their families. I like to make things as an act of rebellion – in a culture where we are urged to buy more, more, more, it feels good to me to say no. If feels good to hold something made by hands, not machines. Something there is only one of. Something with a really tiny, or nonexistent carbon footprint. Most of the materials I use are recycled, or upcycled, or repurposed, or remade. Because we all need to rethink how and why we buy!
